LOJEL Action Steps
During the past two weeks our company, which is based in Hong Kong and Vancouver, has been engaged in an honest conversation about how we want to move forward in practicing anti-racism and allyship.
We recognize that virtue signalling is a common response for brands, which is why after listening to community leaders and seeking resources we are taking an inside-out approach. Expressing outrage or solidarity through a social media post isn’t “doing the work.” Honest conversations and enacting change is.
We are a diverse organization, so our path forward will not only engage in critical dialogue about systemic racism facing the Black community in the United States but how we will engage in anti-racism in support of the global community. Protests of support from Japan to Brazil are clear signs that this movement has awakened a collective consciousness.
Rooted in our core values is a commitment to Diverse Perspectives and Unwavering Respect. To continue building upon that foundation here are some specific steps we are taking next:
1. A detailed review of our HR policies to include a refreshed code of conduct that acknowledges our intolerance of racism and offers support and resources for proactively practicing anti-racism.
2. Seek the support of an anti-racism coach to work with our cross-cultural teams in Hong Kong and Vancouver.
3. A review of LOJEL partnerships and how we will continue to build diversity and inclusivity within the heart of our brand.
4. Sharing international anti-racism resources over the coming weeks, starting with the United States.
