LOJEL Journal

Inspired by new experiences and new encounters, Paid Leave is a curated collection of interests and inspirations for today’s travelers.

Issue

05

The fifth issue of Paid Leave is all about how exploring different cultures can lead to deeper understanding—of ourselves and others. First, we turn to our Creative Workbook to assess our personal customs and routines, and consider how these things might be challenged while abroad. We offer advice about how to feel immersed in a new place in Plane Truth; experience a city through someone else’s eyes in Local Time; hear stories from our latest Principle of Modern Travel; and listen to a range of musical genres in LOJEL Playlist. And finally, we introduce Momento, a series which asks members of the #LojelCollective to share the travel items they can’t live without or keepsakes from their journeys. Each offers a lesson in what can truly be gained while traveling: knowledge, perspective, and a greater sense of self.

But as I’ve learned from my experiences abroad, there are […]

Blogs, magazines, guidebooks. You may often refer to these sources for inspiration and advice, but the truth is, there’s no “correct” way to travel. From departure to arrival, there are countless things to see and do. To discover what you need most from these experiences, question your intentions and evaluate why you’re traveling in the […]

Memento: Courtney Chew

No matter where we travel to, there are things we take with us—or things we bring home to remember a place. That’s the purpose of this series: to learn about the #LojelCollective’s favorite items or keepsakes, and the stories behind them. Oahu, Hawaii: I love how oceans bring strangers together. Locals and tourists alike swim […]

Playlist: Clearing Customs

Our senses are what enhance our memories of a city—and help us recall these moments once we have returned home. The smell of sand and sea may instantly transport you back to a beach in Portugal, the sound of honking horns and indistinct chatter may remind you of a busy New York street. Traveling is […]
