Reducing Harm to the Planet
Climate Management
We have partnered with Change Climate to measure, reduce, and offset our emissions progressively. We see that climate neutrality by 2026 isn’t impossible if we dedicate our efforts toward greener goals. We’ve begun by reducing our reliance on virgin plastic in our products. As well as reducing our reliance on air freight by pivoting towards lower-impact transportation methods.
We are working with community projects in the Katingan and Rimba Raya peatlands of Indonesia and the Liangdu Forest in China to protect vital sources of natural carbon storage to offset the impact we we’re unable to reduce. In addition to conservation, these projects have provided over 15,000 jobs to the local communities.
Product Materials
We’re working towards our goal of all materials used to be manufactured with either 50% recycled materials or certified sustainable material choices.
Our team has been actively identifying and testing what materials to improve while maintaining our product’s quality and user experience. It’s a lofty goal, but we are committed to achieving it.
Key Material Updates:
Cubo Collection:
- 50% pre-consumer recycled polycarbonate (GRS-certified industrial waste from within our factory)
- 50% recycled solution-dyed mélange polyester (GRS Certified, saves roughly 80% energy and water)
Eblo:
- 100% Recycled Cordura (PET) Body (GRS certified)
Niru:
- 100% Recycled Crinkle Nylon Body (GRS certified)
Design for Repair
From design conception, we develop our products with longevity in mind. Material durability, timeless design, and repairability significantly increase the lifespan of your product and lessen our global impact.
For simple repair solutions, designed DIY repair kits that go along with online tutorials, allowing customers to repair their luggage without the hassle and emissions of 2-way shipping.
For more complex solutions, we coordinate with local repair shops instead of a central location to prevent unnecessary transport.
Key Product Elements that are designed for repair:
Cubo: Removable Wheels, Lining, straps
Eblo: Removable Straps
Voja: Removable Straps, Wheels
Packaging Solutions
One of the largest contributors to consumer waste is packaging disposal, and we’re working to minimize as many unnecessary packaging components as possible.
By 2026 we pledge that 100% of our packaging will be made from natural materials.
So far, we have updated our packaging for the Niru and Iloj collections to sugarcane boxes and corn-based bags that are industry-compostable and are produced without fossil fuels.
Our Locations
We recognize the large amount of waste and emissions to construct new stores and locations. To lessen the impact of our newest stores we are incorporating low-impact materials in the design and construction process, starting with our flagship location in Hong Kong.
LOJEL flagship in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong utilizes material alternatives such as shredded LOJEL suitcases and recycled plastic tiles for the facade and table tops, non-toxic flooring and paint, and 100% recycled ocean-bound polyester for upholstery.
Sustainability Beyond the Storefront
Environmental commitments should permeate through all operations of our company, including our offices and facilities. Our efforts towards sustainability go further than consumer-facing activities and production.
In all of our global offices, we’ve integrated, low waste amenities such as package-free communal snacks, refillable glass-bottled beverages, environmentally conscious cleaning solutions, and recycling programs. We also have internal regulations on green practices to ensure we promote sustainability from within with a goal of using entirely non-toxic amenities and cleaning products by 2026.
