The Climate Label Certified

This certification reflects our commitment to understanding and reducing our emissions generated from making, marketing and delivering our products and services. Using the total emissions we’ve earmarked a budget to support funding solutions to lower our carbon footprint over time, meeting the rigorous standards of The Climate Label Certification. This achievement not only verifies our long-term climate targets but also showcases our dedication to immediate action and funding.

Our key insetting projects are shared below, addressing primary sources of LOJEL’s emissions. You can find more information about our Change Climate journey in the sustainability report linked at the bottom of the page.

Design Philosophy

For us, sustainable products aren't just about the materials. Our approach to design takes construction and longevity into consideration, allowing us to create products made to last. Our Semo collection, designed by J&J, is a great example of this design approach.

Design Philosophy

Key design decisions that support our philosophy:

Removable Lining

Our Cubo collection features a removable lining for easy cleaning. This can overall increase the longevity of your luggage.

Repairable Parts

The wheels and handles of our luggage are designed for easy repair by one of our many parterned repair locations, or easily at home by yourself. This design along with our 10-year warranty program has allowed for 20,449 suitcases repaired in 2025 with an estimated 83,523kg of waste redirected from landfills.

Simple Construction

The Niru collection was intentionally designed with simple shapes so the production process would require fewer fabric panels, minimizing material discarded from cutting and sewing and eliminating waste.

Material Sustainability

We’ve made progress on our goal to 50% recycled or sustainable materials choices by 2026. Below are the key product materials that have helped us on this decision and a breakdown of why they are “sustainable”.
A bar chart describing the growth in LOJEL's use of recycled or sustainable materials from 0.8% in 2022 to 17.66% in 2025.

Recycled Polyester

50% of the lining of our Cubo collection is made of recycled, solution dyed polyester which reduces water consumption during the manufacturing process by roughly 80% compared to traditional polyester.

LWG Leather

Leather Working Group (LWS) is a leather certification that verifies our leather manufacturer has gone through audits for their social and environmental performance (including but not limited to: Waste management, Water usage, Energy consumption, Health and Safety, Chemicals management). All leather used in Iloj products are made with LWG certified leather.

Recycled Nylon

For us using recycled nylon allows us to leverage the strength and longevity of traditional nylon while reducing it’s emissions and environmental impact. Most of the recycled nylon used by LOJEL is from pre-consumer industrial waste taken from factories and manufacturing facilities. This waste is then repurposed and made into new material.

PFAS-Free Coating

PFAS-Free Coating also known as C0 Coating. PFAS-Free Coating applied to the surface of fabric helps it to shed water and is crafted from non-toxic, biodegradable, or plant-based ingredients. There are multiple studies showing the negative impacts of PFAS on humans. Even though removing PFAS can be difficult considering its great water repellent capabilities, we’ve opted for C0 finish to reduce our product’s impact on human health. Our Semo collection is PFAS free and are working to transition other nylon collections.

Cordura

Recycled Cordura® is made from recycled plastic bottles (post consumer waste) for the body of our bags in the Eblo collection. This material supports the collection of post consumer waste globally and reduces the emissions of the collection.

Recycled Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate use has been our no.1 emissions contributor for the past 3 years. Due to its strength and flexibility, it is our material of choice for the Cubo Collection however we are conscious of it’s impact. After rounds of testing, we transitioned 50% of the shell to recycled pre-consumer polycarbonate which reduces overall emissions without compromising quality. We’re working to increase the amount of recycled material while maintaining our stringent quality standards.

Packaging Solutions

Packaging disposal is one of the largest contributors to consumer waste. At LOJEL, we are actively working to minimize as many unnecessary packaging components as possible. By 2026 we pledge that 100% of our packaging will be made from natural materials.
In 2025 99.6% of LOJEL's packaging was made from natural materials.

Retail Sustainability

We recognize the large amount of waste and emissions in constructing new store locations. To lessen the impact of our newest stores we are working on incorporating low-impact materials into the design and construction process, starting with our flagship location in Hong Kong.

LOJEL flagship in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong utilizes material alternatives such as shredded LOJEL suitcases and recycled plastic tiles for the facade and table tops, non-toxic flooring and paint, and 100% recycled ocean-bound polyester for upholstery.
