Empowering Communities

UNHCR X LOJEL
LOJEL has partnered with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to stand with those who have been forced to flee their homes. This partnership supports essential programs that provide clean water, safe shelter, and access to education for displaced communities in South Sudan, an under-funded refugee crisis.
The Simplest Act – With Refugees Bracelet created for this partnership has been made with UNHCR and MADE51. They are handmade by forcibly displaced artisans living in South Sudan who are paid a fair wage for their work. A symbol – not of charity, but of shared humanity.
Student Collaborations
We collaborated with students at the Polytechnic University Design School in Hong Kong to improve LOJEL’s retail environment. We challenged the students to utilize damaged suitcases to enhance LOJEL’s in store experience, presenting an opportunity for the students to contribute to solving a real-world issue. The teams provided impactful solutions that mitigated waste and bettered the community while upholding design principles in a functioning store location.

Community Donations
Sometimes bags and luggage get damaged, scratched, or experience other minor mishaps leading to them not being up to standard for sale. This leads to a unique situation of perfectly functional luggage building up in our warehouses but unable to be sold. Since 2023 we have been working with local charities to donate these luggage and give them a new life while supporting those who really need it.
Items Donated so far: 441
- International Rescue Committee in the USA: 33
- Healthserve and their partners in Singapore: 65
- Crossroads Hong Kong: 234
- UNHCR Hong Kong: 63
- Los Angeles Mission: 30
- Local Canadian Charities (e.g. North Shore Crisis Services Society, Canuck Place Children's Hospice): 18
Supplier Engagement
We’ve been working to dive deeper into our supply chain and discover key area’s of improvement. A major factor was encouraging renewable energy usage by our suppliers to reduce our climate impact – energy from factories was our 2nd largest emission source in 2023 and 2024.
In 2024 only 3.9% of the energy used for LOJEL’s production was from renewable sources. We’re looking to improve this percentage by supporting the use of onsite renewables and renewable energy certificates.

2024 Suppliers Summit
To begin the conversation we needed to have a common understanding, and we know it can be tough as suppliers continuously having to meet knew brand standards. We didn’t want to impose standards without any prior conversations.
To do so we hosted our first ever LOJEL supplier summit, key members of LOJEL’s team discussed the following key topics:
- Impact of climate and the importance of measurement
- Waste in the value chain and key area’s of pressure
- Review of LOJEL’s Code of Conduct
- Updates to operational workflows
- Quality expectations and how we can maintain a standard
Supply Chain Transparency
We pledge to dive further into the full scope of the sourcing process to provide greater information on where our materials are sourced to further ensure our presence is supporting local workers beyond the factory. We will be able to expand our visibility on this report once we’ve accrued more data by July 2025.

Stable Pricing
We limit our promotions and sales to ensure our products are sold at a price that reflects their quality. This aligns with our approach to less but better as we encourage purchases based on necessity. We offer sales focused on our phasing out products, this supports in clearing our warehouse area and therefore reducing storage costs, energy consumption, and waste.
